Fabulous Feast of Food
Corn/Maize
Interestingly, the most traditional food is one that has spread around the world it is Maize or Corn. When most people think of tradition, they think of one set group doing that tradition, like a family or country, but we in America eat corn as well. However,it is assumed that the first corn that was ever grown was by the Aztecs, thousands of years ago. Even today, Mexico has one of the highest amount of maize in the world because of the pitch perfect climate of growing corn. There are several items that can produced from corn but some of the most interesting are tamales and in sticky tape (yes, sticky tape)
Chocolate
While maize might be the most traditional food, the food that gave people a smile was chocolate. In Aztec times, it was loved enough to be used as a system of currency. Aztecs had their own chocolate drink, which was very far from chocolate milk or hot chocolate. In consist of coco beans, pepper, corn meal, and spices to add flavor since they didn't use sugar. This drink can still be found in Mexico and today, it's called a atole. Finally in the 1500's Columbus brought chocolate to the Aztecs although it didn't become popular until Hernan Cortes. While chocolate might be popular around the world, it is defiantly Spanish with the name chocolate coming from the word chocolatl.
